USCG OUPV Practice Course

The USCG OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Vessel) exam is made up of four modules:
  • Rules of the RoadCovers right-of-way rules, lights, and signals 
  • Navigation GeneralCovers weather, tides, currents, and charts 
  • Chart NavigationCovers plotting courses, measuring distances, and determining latitude and longitude 
  • Deck General/SafetyCovers boat handling, firefighting, and safety equipment 

This course provides a concise review of key topics covered in the US Coast Guard Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) exam. It focuses on core knowledge areas essential for passing the exam, including:

  • Navigation Rules: Understanding and applying the rules of the road to prevent collisions.
  • Navigation General: Chart reading, compass use, aids to navigation, and basic plotting.
  • Safety: Emergency procedures, fire fighting, first aid, and vessel safety equipment.
  • Vessel Operations: Handling characteristics, maintenance, and legal requirements.

This course is designed as a review and assumes some prior familiarity with the material. It is not a substitute for a comprehensive OUPV course but a targeted exam preparation tool.
